Have you spotted Chelmsford's newest Blue Plaque? Unveiled yesterday, it commemorates Dr Benjamin Pugh (1715-1798), a pioneer in midwifery and mass inoculation against smallpox. Dr Pugh invented the large, curved forceps used by midwives and an early ventilator for babies who had difficulty breathing.
