Blackwater Retail Park, Maldon, Essex - Construction Works Commences
This week saw the much anticipated start of the construction works of Blackwater Retail Park with a ground breaking ceremony attended by the Chairman of Maldon District Council & Aquila Holdings Ltd on Wednesday. Aquila Holdings Limited is the parent of the developer Aquila Maldon Limited. Aquila are a local development and investment company with a property portfolio of in excess of £250,000,000. They were and are the owners of the Bond Street Shopping Centre in Chelmsford, where John Lewis is one of the anchor tenants. The works are being undertaken by PDR Construction. Limited.

The 75,000 sq ft shopping park is due to open in August 2018 and is close to the existing Tesco Extra and recently completed Lidl.

The scheme is already over 76% pre-let to Aldi, Next, Home Bargains, Sports Direct and Costa.

An additional 14,400 sq ft is still to let and agents Cushman & Wakefield in discussions with other retailers which will further enhance the attractiveness of the scheme and bring new names to the Maldon area.. The scheme will eventually a much needed hotel to drive more tourism to the Maldon area.

Once fully open, the Retail Park and hotel will employ circa 200 staff.
