Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Winter Raffle Winner Announced!

We are very pleased to announce that the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Winter Raffle has raised an incredible £4,000 for the charity!

The raffle was drawn on Friday 24th January at the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Fundraising Office by Volunteers Brett Shanahan, Karen Rowan and Derek Banks, and the first prize cheque of £500 was presented to Mrs Marilyn Stickland from Shalford near Braintree in Essex. We invited the lucky winner to our Mid Essex Support Centre in Hatfield Peverel to see the fantastic work taking place and how donations are helping those living with cancer.

"I had heard of the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity many times but I truly didn't appreciate the important work they do until I visited their Mid Essex Support Centre.

I spoke with Therapist Angela Woodward about the treatments that the charity provide for those living with cancer. The ambiance at the centre was one of peace and tranquillity with soft gentle music playing and a wonderful welcoming atmosphere; I was most impressed.

To win the £500 top prize in their Winter Raffle was a complete shock; I never win anything! I had attended their annual Christmas Gift and Food Fair at Chelmsford City Racecourse last November where I purchased my tickets. It was a wonderful surprise. I plan on spending my winnings on a weekend away with my friends and treating my daughters and I to a special day to commemorate my husband.

A huge thank you to the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity for my prize and to staff member Holly who showed me around the Mid Essex Support Centre in Hatfield Peverel; I really enjoyed my visit."

Our second prize winner of the Winter hamper went to Mr Blatchford from Chelmsford.

Third prize of the Meal Voucher for the Lion Inn at Boreham went to Mrs Anderson, also from Chelmsford.

Helen Rollason Cancer Charity Marketing Coordinator Holly Butler said;

"Congratulations to Mrs Stickland and our other raffle winners! A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Winter Raffle and bought a ticket, whether it was in one of our Support Centres, on our website, at an event, with your Moment Magazine or over the phone. Our Raffle draw is a fun and yet valuable way in which to help our charity enable quality of life while living with cancer. We are delighted for Mrs Stickland and our other winners and we would like to thank them for taking part and supporting us.

Make sure to mark October 2020 in your diaries, when we will be releasing details for our 2020 Winter raffle draw - where there'll be another £500 top prize up for grabs!"

Helen Rollason Cancer Charity is dedicated to supporting people whose lives are touched by cancer. Our support centres in Essex, London and Hertfordshire are vital in helping people living with cancer. The centres offer a range of complementary therapies to patients in an environment of peace and tranquillity, including counselling, reflexology, aromatherapy, manual lymphatic drainage and support groups. The centres are for patients with all types of cancer at all stages, whether newly diagnosed or longer term, throughout and after completion of treatment.

Founded in 1999, the charity is the legacy of BBC broadcaster Helen Rollason, whose vision was:

"Good quality of life while coping with cancer is the most important gift a sick person can receive. It should be available to everyone."

Providing support for cancer patients' emotional well-being alongside their medical treatment continues to be at the core of the charity's mission.
