04/01/2016 About 1 minute

The Army Cadet Force (ACF) is one of the UK's oldest, largest and most successful youth organisations. It has a long and proud history since 1860 of preparing youngsters for all walks of life and encouraging an active involvement in local communities.

The ACF has 45,000 cadets in over 1700 Cadet Centres spread across the UK. The ACF is administered by a small team of permanent staff based in each county whilst the training and running of its extensive programme of activities is run by 8000 cadet force adult volunteers.

Chelmsford and an additional, Melbourne Detachment cover the whole of the Chelmsford area taking in new recruits from the age of 12 and in Year 8 at School. Both recruit throughout the year with Chelmsford detachment meeting on a Thursday evening at the local Army Reserve Centre and Melbourne on Tuesday evenings at the cadet centre situated off Rainsford Road. If you are interested in joining visit the ACF website www.armycadets.com or give our County HQ a call for more information on 01245 462302.
