The photograph shows my grandmother, Elsie Church outside Brierley, Main Road in September 1934.It belongs to my father, John Church who is now 94.Brothers Sam and Ferd Church had Brierley and Sunnydale next door built and moved to Boreham in 1926.A third brother, Fred and his wife Edith also lived in Boreham with their five daughters, Ferd's daughter Doreen lived at Sunnydale until the houses were acquired for development and demolished,
We came to Boreham every week as children. Parked at The Rec, called for sweets at Ray Smee's garage and waited for upwards of ten minutes to cross the main road in those days before the by pass.
The compulsory purchase for the mew road carved the end off the very long gardens and flattened the wood full of wood ananomes, celandines and bluebells between the end of the garden and the railway line.
We'd like to thank Ann for taking the time to write and scan the photograph.
