Construction on the new £34million school started following a ground-breaking ceremony at the site yesterday.
The school, which will be run by Chelmsford Learning Partnership (formerly Boswells Academy Trust), will operate as one school but with two separate buildings for primary and secondary pupils.
The primary building, together with an early years centre, will open ready for September 2018, while the first intake of secondary pupils will start a year later.
