
The 48-year-old staff member admitted to exchanging letters and photographs with the prisoner, breaching professional boundaries and violating the standards expected of those working within the custodial environment.
The offences came to light following an internal safeguarding and security review, during which evidence of the relationship was uncovered. The case was subsequently referred to Essex Police for further investigation.
A spokesperson for the force confirmed that the tutor entered a guilty plea, acknowledging serious breaches of trust and professional conduct.
Officials described the behaviour as “a clear abuse of position” that undermined the integrity and safety obligations of the prison service. The defendant is expected to be sentenced at a future hearing.
HMP Chelmsford and Essex Police emphasised that such incidents are treated with the utmost seriousness and that steps are continually taken to prevent and address misconduct within custodial settings.
