The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) confirmed that the Thursday 21st May fixture will now take place at Southwell Racecourse, while the Thursday 4th June meeting has been transferred to Lingfield Park Racecourse.
According to the BHA, the race programmes at both replacement meetings will remain “as close as possible” to the original Chelmsford schedule, although some race conditions have been slightly altered following the move.
The changes come after Chelmsford City’s operator, Golden Mile Racing Limited (GMRL), was not granted a licence by the BHA to stage fixtures at the venue. The regulator said no further race meetings can be held at Chelmsford pending the outcome of an appeal process.
The latest transfers continue a turbulent spell for the popular all-weather racecourse, with several recent fixtures already moved away from Chelmsford earlier this spring. Previous meetings had been switched to Southwell, while the Listed Chelmer Stakes was relocated to Goodwood.
The BHA also confirmed that two races abandoned from the cancelled 14th May fixture have now been rescheduled elsewhere:
The 6f two-year-old Class 4 Novice race will now be held at Newmarket Racecourses on Friday 15th May.
The 1m three-year-old Fillies’ Handicap has been moved to Wolverhampton Racecourse on Monday 18th May.
Chelmsford City Racecourse has faced mounting uncertainty in recent months after the previous operating company entered administration. The racecourse has appealed the BHA’s decision, but for now racing remains suspended at the venue.
