Beyond the rides, the Museum opens up its collection of historic railway buildings and exhibits — from restored station buildings, signal boxes and Victorian goods sheds, to working restoration sheds, model-railway club rooms and a train-themed children’s playground. The site spans over 10 acres — ideal for families who’d like to bring a picnic and make a full day of it.
On arrival you can also grab a hot drink or bite to eat at the on-site café, before or after your steam rides. And because the Museum is a registered charity run by volunteers, your visit helps keep the heritage alive. Tickets are priced at £11.50 for adults, £8.50 for children (age 4–15), and free for under-4s. Pre-book online to save 5% — but door tickets will also be available on the day.
If you’re after a nostalgic, family-friendly start to 2026 — some fresh air, a bit of railway heritage and the romance of steam — this could be the perfect way to ring in the New Year.
