Essex Police Seize Two Cars During Stansted Airport Vehicle Safety Operation

06/05/2026 About 1 minute Share article:
Essex Police have revealed the results of a major vehicle safety operation carried out near London Stansted Airport on Monday, May 5th.

Officers said two vehicles were seized and 28 motorists were reported for various offences during the enforcement activity, which focused on improving road safety and identifying potentially dangerous vehicles and drivers.

The operation involved specialist roads policing officers carrying out checks on vehicles travelling around the airport area, one of the busiest transport hubs in the East of England.

Police said offences detected during the checks included issues relating to vehicle condition, documentation and driver compliance.

Focus On Road Safety Around Stansted
Essex Police regularly conduct proactive traffic operations around Stansted Airport due to the high volume of vehicles travelling through the area each day, including taxis, private hire vehicles, delivery vans and international travellers.

The force says these operations are designed to:
• improve road safety
• identify uninsured or unsafe vehicles
• tackle illegal driving activity
• ensure motorists comply with UK road laws

During the May 5th operation, officers stopped numerous vehicles for inspection, with two ultimately seized by police.

Why Vehicles Can Be Seized
Under UK road traffic laws, police have powers to seize vehicles in situations including:

• driving without insurance
• dangerous vehicle defects
• driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence
• anti-social vehicle use

Motorists reported for offences may face fines, penalty points or further court proceedings depending on the nature of the alleged offences.

Essex Police Message To Drivers
Essex Police say enforcement campaigns such as this are intended to keep roads safe for everyone and encourage motorists to ensure their vehicles are legal, roadworthy and properly insured before travelling.

The force continues to carry out vehicle safety and compliance operations across Essex throughout the year, particularly in high-traffic areas and around major transport routes.
