The Willam B Surf and Turf Evening

Reviewed by the Community Hub

We were invited to the William B on Friday 26th August, to sample their surf and turf taster menu.

We were not disappointed, I think we both thought a taster menu would be a thimble of food to literally "taste". We could not have been more wrong.

To begin we were welcomed by Amy and her team with a glass of house white, the courses began to come out promptly starting with a creamy seafood chowder, served in a coffee cup. It was seasoned to perfection, with a generous helping of seafood throughout.

This was followed by King scallop on chorizo set off beautifully with a cauliflower purée. The hubby, dubious about the Cromer crab mousse, served on a Melba toast was delightfully surprised with the taste and texture.

By the time our helping of cod loin on a bed of risotto arrived I was getting to the point of delaying eating, not wanting the food to end. The cod perfectly cooked with creamy risotto as the perfect accompaniment

Course 5 was Mini Chateau Briand cooked medium, lovely and pink with potato wedges and a peppercorn sauce, it was perfectly orchestrated to make the heavier dish the last, so we had lovely full tummies without feeling uncomfortable.

To finish poached pear, a warming pear crumble with a peach sorbet, the perfect finale.
All the food was cooked wonderfully, and there was just enough time between courses to digest what we had just eaten, without having to wait too long for the next.

Amy and her team were attentive and very helpful all evening, it was a wonderfully relaxed evening made more so with having a meal chosen for us, the evening flowed along with their extensive selection of wine to accompany each course.

A tasting menu forces you out of your comfort zone, eating meals you wouldn’t ordinarily choose from a menu, we enjoyed every single dish and would thoroughly recommend the William B for their next tasting evening and for any other evening in between.
