Essex Police confirmed on Sunday that three people have now been charged as part of the investigation into the incident, which happened in Market Place shortly after 10pm on Monday 31 August.
Two teenage boys suffered serious injuries to their faces and upper bodies during the incident, while a third person was also injured.
A 23-year-old man and an 18-year-old man, both from Chelmsford, have now been charged with attempted murder alongside a third man.
All three are due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Monday 7 September.
Attempted murder charges after Braintree shooting
Police were called to Braintree town centre at around 10.10pm on 31 August following reports of a shooting.
A major investigation was subsequently launched, with Essex Police carrying out searches and making a number of arrests.
Officers also recovered a shotgun and ammunition during the investigation.
Police have previously said their working theory is that the shooting was connected to a dispute involving criminal drug activity.
However, Essex Police has stressed that those who were injured are not believed to have been involved in that offending.
Chelmsford men due in court
The three defendants have each been charged with attempted murder and are expected to make their first court appearances in Chelmsford on Monday.
One of the Chelmsford defendants has also been charged with a number of separate alleged offences, including firearms-related matters.
The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
The charges mark a significant development in the police investigation, but criminal proceedings are now active.
The allegations against all three defendants have not been proven and it will be for the courts to determine the case.
